This is why we launched the eShare Pensions Governance Forum. It's a true forum, with eShare Pensions acting purely as a facilitator and everyone is encouraged to make a contribution to the debate.

Aims and Objectives

The objective is to share a broad range of positive views on how we can achieve the goal of improving pension scheme governance - and to do that we like attendees to come with an open mind and honest approach to discussing both the problems and the solutions.

Forum members have stressed that there has to be continuity between forums to achieve anything viable, so we do ask for a commitment from our core members to try and attend every event (subject to all the usual work pressures). Needless to say, guests are always very welcome!

How did it all start?

Back in January 2005, Microsoft and eShare co-hosted a pensions seminar at which OPRA, the Treasury and the NAPF all spoke about initiatives to improve governance. Shoe retailer Clarks and eShare also spoke about the impact and the potentioal solutions. The result was a general consensus that the best way forward for good governance was a free framework that encouraged a more proactive approach and avoided a reactive environment which pressured people into compliance by box ticking.

About two thirds of the people who attended the seminar said they were interested in founding a regular forum to discuss how to improve governance... and the rest is history.
